X-Inventory & X-Storage

Advanced Grid Inventory System for RPG Maker MZ

Transform the default RPG Maker MZ inventory into a modern grid inventory system inspired by survival RPGs and loot-based games, while keeping customization simple and practical.

X-Inventory was designed around WindowSkins instead of fixed interface images. Because of this, you do not need to redraw the entire inventory whenever its size changes. The interface automatically adapts to different inventory sizes, making customization much easier and significantly faster.

Perfect for survival RPGs, dungeon crawlers, tactical RPGs, MMORPG inspired projects, and games focused on exploration and loot management.

X-Inventory

A complete replacement for the default RPG Maker MZ inventory system.

Each actor can have their own independent inventory with unique grid sizes and layouts.

You can create:

  • Small inventories for weaker characters
  • Large backpacks for tanks or carriers
  • Different inventory sizes for each follower
  • Progression systems based on inventory upgrades

Independent Inventories

Every actor has their own inventory space instead of sharing a single party inventory.

Dynamic Inventory Expansion

Expand inventory size during gameplay using plugin commands. Useful for backpack upgrades. Since the system uses WindowSkins, there is no need to create multiple interface images for larger inventories.

WindowSkin Interface

Most inventory plugins rely on fixed UI images that become difficult to maintain when resizing the interface.

X-Inventory uses RPG Maker's WindowSkin system instead, making it easier to customize themes, resize inventories, adapt the UI to different resolutions and maintain visual consistency

Multi-Size Items

Items can occupy different amounts of space inside the inventory grid.

Drag & Drop Equipment

Equip items by:

  • Right clicking
  • Dragging directly into equipment slots

The system was designed to feel more interactive and modern compared to the default RPG Maker menus.

Item Rotation

Rotate items dynamically to better organize inventory space.

Stack Support

Set custom stack limits for each item.

Rarity System

Includes:

  • Item rarity support
  • Custom tooltip support
  • Custom inventory images
  • Equipment icon overrides

X-Storage

An expansion plugin for X-Inventory that adds persistent storages and randomized loot chests.

The plugin uses the same inventory style and interaction system from X-Inventory, keeping everything visually consistent.

Main Features

Persistent Storage

Create:

  • Banks
  • Personal storage
  • House chests
  • Safe containers

All stored items remain saved permanently.

Random Loot Chests

Generate randomized loot using weighted loot tables.

Useful for:

  • Dungeons
  • Treasure rooms
  • Exploration rewards
  • Procedural loot systems
  • Rare item drops

Smart Withdraw System

When withdrawing items, the plugin automatically checks:

  1. Party leader inventory first
  2. Other party members afterward

This helps avoid unnecessary manual inventory management.

Loot Chest Restrictions

Random loot chests do not allow item deposits, making them function like traditional RPG treasure chests.

Why Use X-Inventory?

Many RPG Maker inventory plugins depend heavily on static images and fixed layouts, which makes resizing and customization difficult.

X-Inventory focuses on flexibility and scalability while keeping the interface easy to customize and maintain.

The plugin was built for developers who want a more modern inventory system without needing to redesign the UI every time the inventory changes.

 Compatibility

X-Inventory replaces the default RPG Maker MZ item scene and modifies part of the engine's inventory handling logic.

Because of this, it will probably not be compatible with plugins that heavily alter:

  • The default item system
  • Inventory behavior
  • Equipment handling
  • Item scene structure

If another plugin directly changes how RPG Maker handles inventories or item windows, compatibility issues may happen.
